My bike is down 5 MPH or more in the 1/4 mile. Do I need a new map?
No. A drop of 5 MPH in the 1/4 mile is not caused by the fuel map.
As a general rule, it takes approximately 2–3 rear-wheel horsepower (RWHP) to gain or lose 1 MPH in the quarter-mile. That means a 5 MPH drop would indicate a loss of around 10–15 RWHP—and we would never send out a map that far off through our Power Commander pre-loads or Map Support Program.
If you're seeing this kind of performance loss, it's a sign something else is wrong with the bike. Start troubleshooting with these common causes (in order of likelihood):
- Clutch slippage
- Dirty fuel injectors or a restricted fuel system - Try Fuel System Treatment
- Poor traction or incorrect tire pressure – Watch this video for more info
