Can I dump the clutch at launch after installing an Ultra Clutch Mod?
Unless you’re running wheelie bars, you should never just dump the clutch. Doing so can lead to uncontrollable launches, wheelies, or even damage to your drivetrain.
Instead, we recommend a controlled launch technique:
-
Slightly preload the clutch lever before launching.
-
As you roll into the throttle, feed the clutch out smoothly and quickly.
-
The goal is to have full throttle and full clutch engagement before the 1–2 shift—without lifting the front wheel or losing traction.
Adjusting Your Setup:
-
Washer shimming (behind the clutch springs) is a way to increase static clamp pressure, which can improve 60-foot times, boost MPH, and extend clutch life.
-
However, adding too much pressure can make the lever harder to control and increase the risk of tire spin or launch inconsistency—especially for less experienced riders.
Fine-tuning the clutch engagement point and spring pressure will be key to optimizing your launches.
