Does a Brock’s Performance ECU Flash “lock” the ECU?
Short answer: Yes - just like every other professional ECU flash on the market.
All modern third-party ECU flashing platforms encrypt their files to prevent tampering or unauthorized changes. Once an ECU is flashed, it becomes tied to the software ecosystem that performed the flash—and often to the original purchaser as well.
Because of this, one flashing platform usually cannot overwrite another. For example, if your ECU was previously flashed using Woolich software, it typically cannot be flashed over using FTecu or Moore Mafia software.
In some cases, the ECU can be flashed back to stock, after which a new flash can be applied. However, this process permanently deletes the original license and tune, and the ECU can no longer be accessed or tuned using the original software.
In other cases, the ECU is fully encrypted and cannot be read or reverted by standard methods. Many flash providers will advise replacing the ECU entirely. To avoid that expense, Brock’s Performance refers customers to Guhl Motors, who can return most ECUs to a true stock state.
This still results in the loss of the original tune and license—but eliminates the need to purchase a new ECU.
